While proceeding in a convoy near Hennebont, France, a truck carrying explosives struck a mine and exploded. The truck burst into flames instantaneously and the ammunition exploded violently. He jumped from his ruck and raced toward a soldier lying near the burning vehicle. With the assistanceof three other men, he lifted the injured man, whose clothing was aflame, carried him clear of the blaxing vehicle and ripping off his own jacket, rapidely extinguihes the flames.
