On Dec. 23, 1944, his company was surrounded by German tanks, artillery, infantry and mortars. Taken prisoner, he was placed in Stalag 12A were he spent two months. After the two months, he was transferred to another prison camp near Frankfurt, Germany. He was liberated in April 1945.
